Deposit reimbursements

The AMF guarantees deposits with registered institutions in the event of the institution's insolvency. This deposit insurance offers a maximum guarantee of $100,000 per person, per registered institution.

When its guarantee obligation is enforceable based on a condition stipulated in the Deposit Insurance Act, the AMF provides depositors with a claim form, specifying the reimbursement terms and conditions. The AMF subsequently reimburses guaranteed deposits within an acceptable time frame (usually a few weeks). Reimbursements can total a maximum of $100,000 per person, per institution, including principal and related interest.

When reimbursing a deposit in lieu of an institution, the AMF acquires through subrogation all the rights the depositor may have had with regard to the institution, up to the amount of the reimbursement.
