Title: Damage Insurance Agent or Broker
A representative authorized to act in the damage insurance sector may offer personal-lines damage insurance and commercial-lines damage insurance products and advisory services.
Title: Personal-lines damage insurance agent or broker
A representative authorized to act in the Personal-lines Damage Insurance sector class may only offer products and advisory services pertaining to:
- property and civil liability of a domestic nature of a natural person or an independent worker at his residence;
- residential buildings containing not more than six dwellings.
Title : Commercial-lines damage insurance agent or broker
A representative authorized to act in the Commercial-lines Damage Insurance sector class may only offer products and advisory services pertaining to damage insurance for commercial businesses, including in respect of independent workers. He uses the title of "commercial-lines damage insurance agent" or "commercial-lines damage insurance broker," as applicable.

Step 2: Pass the AMF examinations
The AMF requires future professionals to pass the following examinations, based on the sector or sector class in which they plan to practice, in order to ensure they have the necessary skills to properly advise clients.
An examination is valid for two years from the date passed. A failed exam may be rewritten three times.
The AMF offers reference manuals and tools to help you prepare for the examinations.
If you wish to write an AMF examination, you must complete and submit the appropriate registration application.

Step 3: Complete a probationary period
Once you have passed all the required examinations, you must complete a probationary period where you will apply, in a real but supervised setting, the knowledge and skills necessary to practice your profession. Trainees must work a minimum of 28 hours per week. All successfully completed examinations must be valid when beginning the probationary period, which extends for:

12 weeks for the Damage Insurance sector

6 weeks for the Personal-lines Damage Insurance sector class

6 weeks for the Commercial-lines Damage Insurance sector class
Step 4: Apply for a representative’s certificate in the sector or a sector class
In order to obtain a representative’s certificate, you must submit an application to the AMF before the validity of your examinations expires. If the validity expires during your probationary period, you have 30 days from the end of this period to apply.
While your application is being processed, and on receipt of a notice to this effect from the AMF, the probationary certificate will remain in effect for a maximum of 45 days as of the end of the probationary period.
It should be noted that before issuing a representative’s certificate the Authority will take into account information related to the applicant's degree of honesty (criminal record, bankruptcy, etc.) as well as information related to the job held in case of dual employment
